Cancel Culture Music

Sep 9, 2021
1hr 5 min
Welcome to the very first Messy Truths Podcast episode where three long-time sister friends record (remotely) and talk about the messy bits of life. Nesha and Mar are located in Montreal, Canada, and Azar is located in New York City.
In this first episode, the ladies didn't know what the name of the podcast would be, but they did know what they wanted to discuss: cancel culture music.
Do you feel a cringe every time you hear an MJ or R. Kelly song? Maybe you don't? You're not alone. In episode one the ladies talk about music from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s that they love, but would be banned by today's cancel culture standards.
But first, the hosts give some background on how they know each other.
Fact Check: The Parental Advisory campaign was not initiated by Senator John Kerry's wife. The campaign, was initiated by Tipper Gore (wife of Senator and later Vice President Al Gore) in addition to other women, in Washington, DC. It ceased during the mid-to-late 1990s.
